Bengaluru: Stating that he was not indebted to six-and-a-half crore people of the State, but indebted to the Congress, which made him the Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that he will resign from his post if he failed to waive crop loans within a week.
Speaking to press persons after offering floral tributes to the portrait of late Prime Minister Jawharlal Nehru on his 54th death anniversary at Vidhana Soudha here yesterday, Kumaraswamy sought a week’s time to waive off farm loans.
Appealing the farmers not to commit suicides, HDK reiterated that he will resign on his own in case he failed to waive off farm loans and that he don’t want anybody pressurising him to quit.
Making an appeal to the farmers of the State not to commit suicides, Kumaraswamy said that he would honour his commitment.
Attacking State BJP Chief and Opposition leader B.S. Yeddyurappa and a section of farmer representative, Kumaraswamy said that he does not want any farmer organisation to exert pressure on him.
Maintaining that he will not stick to the seat of power, the CM asked Yeddyurappa to stop provoking farmers.
Kumaraswamy, who reviewed the financial position of the State during a meeting with officials on May 23, held a meeting with retired IAS Officer Subramanya on Sunday to weigh the pros and cons of waiving crop loans.
JD(S) Supremo should teach HDK on making public remarks: Vedike
Bengaluru-based Jayaprakash Narayan Vichara Vedike has taken strong exception to HDK’s remark that he was indebted to the Congress.
In a press statement, the Vedike President B.M. Shivakumar said that Kumaraswamy must understand that he was functioning as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, which has a population of over six crore and not of the Congress party.
Claiming that Kumaraswamy’s remark was shameful, he said that JD(S) Supremo H.D. Deve Gowda should teach Kumaraswamy on making public remarks.
Maintaining that people will question Kumaraswamy and not the Congress if he fails to meet his pre-poll promises, Shivakumar observed that HDK should not have made the promise on farm loan waiver, if he was unable to do so.
He further said that Kumaraswamy had insulted the people of the State by his unwarranted remark.
Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy’s statement that he is indebted to the Congress and not to the people is as damaging as his father H.D.Devegowda’s earlier statement that the post poll alliance with the Congress is only restricted to Vidhanasoudha, the seat of the Government in Karnataka. If the JD(S) is indebted to, responsible and accountable to the Congress they should ponder what will be the fate of the hapless people of Karnataka. They should make it clear that political power they have usurped in a flagrant defiance of the public mandate is to serve and promote the interests of the people or for self aggrandizement. Ironically the the JD(S) has a dubious record in harnessing political power for public good as in the earlier alliance with the BJP they governed for 20 months to subserve their political future and left Mr.Yediyurappa high and dry when it was time to hand over the Government to his BJP as per the prior agreement.And now he has the temerity to claim that his stint as CM with the BJP earlier was a blot and that he is atoning for it by going with the Congress presently in Karnataka.
