To promote Brotherhood and Communal Harmony
Mysuru: The century-old organisation of the city, Anjuman-e-Hadeeqathul Adab organised its annual Eid Milan programme at the Rani Bahadur Auditorium, Hunsur Road, Mysuru, on Sunday last.
The programme began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Janab Noorulla Shareef and their translation by Janab Muazam Ali Khan Tanveer.
President of the Anjuman Syed Shafi Ahmed welcomed and presented a brief report of the Anjuman’s activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Shanthivrathananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE) complimented the Anjuman for organising a unique type of Eid Milan programme that aimed at bringing people from different faiths together.
While emphasising the subtle but very crucial difference between tolerating and accepting faiths other than one’s own, he said that we should respect each other’s religion and adopt the principle of live and let live.
He said that we are human beings first and then the followers of our respective religions. He said that he had visited the shrine of the Sufi Saint Khawja Ghareeban Nawaz at Ajmer and had prayed there for the well-being of the entire humanity.
Bishop of Mysuru the Most Rev. Dr. K.A. William, in his address, said that we are all one and we must respect each other and we should live like one family to create a healthy atmosphere. He said that it is people who get down to doing good instead of just watching what others do are the ones who make a difference to our society.
Dr. B. Sheik Ali, former Vice- Chancellor, Mangalore and Goa Universities, complimented the office-bearers of the Anjuman for organising this function to spread the message of Brotherhood and Communal Harmony.
He said that there is no Country like India in the whole Universe, no State like Karnataka in our Country and no City like Mysuru in the whole of Karnataka when it comes to peaceful co-existence.
He requested the people to respect human values and said that God is one and we are all his creatures despite our different faiths.
Dr. Sheik Ali said that a Muslim is only half a Muslim even if he prays five times a day and becomes a complete Muslim only if he involves himself in social service and promotes peace and brotherhood.
Speaking on the occasion, former Minister and MLA Tanveer Sait said that these days everybody is only worried about what others are doing. Instead of this, people should worry about they can do more good for the betterment of the society.
Sait lamented that these days rumours spread faster than fire and requested the audience not to believe rumours but verify facts before acting in haste.
Dr. Syed Shakeeb Ur Rahman, the former Principal of SJCE and Dean of the VTU, also spoke on the occasion.
Dr. Jalees Ahmed Khan Tareen, former Vice-Chancellor, Kashmir and Pondicherry Universities, said that he had released his autobiography, ‘The Rise of a Barefoot Boy’ in Kashmir recently and said that he had written it mainly to inspire the younger generation and let them know that India is the best place to live in.
He said that the good that the Anjuman was doing should be replicated all over the country.
While Tanveer Sait was felicitated by the dignitaries and Anjuman members for his impressive victory in the recent elections, Siraj Ahmed Khalid, the Registrar of Karnataka Urdu Academy, was felicitated for his good service to the cause of promoting Urdu and his assistance to the Anjuman in conducting many cultural and literary programmes successfully.
Members of the Alert Citizens Team (ACT) and Corporator of Ward No. 43 Suhail Baig were present too.
The Eid Milan programme was anchored by Dr. K. Javeed Nayeem, former President of the Anjuman and columnist, Star of Mysore, in his unique and witty style which won much applause from the audience.
While Anjuman member Anees Ahmed Khan Ghori proposed a vote of thanks, Dr. Salahuddin Khan Ghori, Deputy Medical Superintendent, JSS Hospital, led the singing of the National Anthem.
