Mysuru: Asserting that yoga is helpful in maintaining health, former NMC (National Medical Commission) Chairperson Dr. B.N. Gangadhar said that many medical education institutions have included yoga in their curriculum and many cancer centres too have introduced yoga in order to maintain the mental health of patients.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Manasa Yoga’ National Workshop organised under the joint aegis of Department of AYUSH, Government of Karnataka (GoK), Government Ayurveda Research Centre, Mysuru and Department of Psychiatry, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) at the Millennium Hall in Platinum Jubilee Hall Complex, J.K. Grounds, here recently.
Pointing out that yoga has earned a special global recognition, Dr. Gangadhar said that yoga has been playing a decisive role in all aspects of health. Yoga has the strength to double the treatment given by doctors for curing of ailments, he added.
Noting that the UN too has recognised yoga and has started celebrating the International Day of Yoga since the past 10 years, he said that many scientific research articles and Journals were published from India before yoga got global recognition. But as yoga gained prominence and global recognition, many nations are coming up with research articles on the benefits of yoga and America is the first among them, he maintained.
‘Manoroga’ (mental illness), a book written by MMC&RI Psychiatry Department Head Dr. B.N. Raveesh was released on the occasion.
Former Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Dr. K. Chidananda Gowda, MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, Government Ayurveda Research Centre Assistant Director Dr. Lakshmi Narayana Shenoy and others were present.
