Mysuru: Maharaja High School and PU College Old Students Association President B.S. Sridhar Raje Urs will stage a hunger strike from dawn to dusk (7 am to 7 pm) on July 14 in front of the Mummadi Chamaraja Wadiyar statue installed in the School premises.
In a press release, Raje Urs has stated that he is forced to resort to the hunger strike as repeated pleas to the Chief Minister, Ministers concerned, Legislators, Corporation and MUDA officials to repair the compound wall which had collapsed some years ago, has fallen on deaf ears.
Mummadi Chamaraja Wadiyar founded the Maharaja High School in 1833 and Raje Urs as Principal of the School in 1987 celebrated 150 years and in 2009 as the President of the Old Students Association celebrated the 175th anniversary of the School. It is sad to note that the Government is ignoring a reputed institution like the Maharaja High School.
As July 14 is the birth anniversary of the founder, it would be meaningless to celebrate the visionary’s anniversary when the compound lies in utter neglect. Hence, he has decided to stage the hunger strike from 7 am to 7 pm, said Sridhar Raje Urs.
He has requested the old students of the Association to participate in the protest and draw the attention of the Government.
What a shame Star of Mysore ! How can you say Mummadi Chamaraja Wadiyar founded the school in 1833 ?
It was Maharaja Krishna Raja Wadiyar ( 1799-1868) who founded the first English School in Mysore in 1833 ! This was after Commissioners were appointed to administer the state in 1831. Thus the school was run from Maharaja’s personal funds till his death in 1868.
It is equally a matter of shame a senior citizen has to go on hunger strike to get a Heritage Building’s Compound repaired that too on Maharaja’s Birthday ! Maharaja was born on July 14, 1794.
Can you not take a lead in starting a Heritage Trust which can raise funds and repair and conserve Heritage Buildings ?
