Mysuru: After a brief lull, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) resumed its footpath clearance drive at various areas in Ward Nos. 59, 64 and 65 in city this morning.

A 20-member team comprising MCC Engineers, Health and Work Inspectors and Environmental Engineer, led by Zone 2 Chief and Assistant Commissioner Priyadarshini carried out the operation in these Wards from 10 am till 2 pm.

They removed all unauthorised advertisement bill boards, apart from petty shops which had encroached the footpaths and causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists.

The footpath clearance drive was carried out on Nrupatunga Road, Pooja Bakery Road, Vivekananda Circle, Vivekananda Main Road, Srirampura Road, Adichunchanagiri Road, Manandawadi Main Road, Nanjumalige Circle surroundings, New Kantharaja Urs Road and other adjoining areas. Over 90 petty shops that had encroached footpaths were cleared in today’s drive.

Kuvempunagar Police provided security during the operation.   

MCC Development Officer Omkar, Engineers Ravikumar, Dayanand, Puttanna and Kiran, Health Inspectors Basavaraj, Rajeshwari Bai, Preethi and others were present.

Tomorrow’s drive  

MCC officials said that they would continue the footpath clearance  drive at Akashavani Circle, Yadavagiri, Gokulam, Brindavan Layout, Jayalakshmipuram, Temple Road, Kalidasa Road and other surrounding areas on Feb.7.

It may be recalled that the delay in footpath clearance drive was the main issue discussed at the recently held MCC Council meeting and the Corporators had taken the MCC officials to task for their failure to clear footpath encroachments near Mysore Palace  and areas around Central Business District including Sayyaji Road, Devaraja Urs Road, Gandhi Square, Shivarampet, Dhanvanthri Road, Narayana Shastri Road and Chamaraja Double Road. Bowing to pressure, MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha and Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath directed all Zonal Officers to intensify the drive.
