Music Varsity celebrates World Music Day and IDY

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of World Music Day celebrations, Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University had organised special virtual lectures on music yesterday.

Earlier, speaking after inaugurating the programme, Music Varsity Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr. Nagesh V. Bettakote said, “World Music Day is now celebrated in over 120 countries. Over the last seven years, on this same day, we have been celebrating World Yoga Day. Both music and Yoga are said to have healing qualities, which are an integral part of our Indian culture.”

Later, Vidwan Dr. R.K. Padmanabha of Bengaluru, who was the chief guest for the programme, delivered a special lecture on the topic ‘Sangeetha Dhare,’ followed by Hindustani musician Dr. Dattatreya Velankar on the topic ‘Sangeetha-Nadayoga.’ 

Earlier in the day, International Day of Yoga (IDY) was also celebrated at Music Varsity premises. Music Varsity Finance Officer Renukamba, Srilatha, Shivakumar and others were present.

Webinar on ‘Yoga, Health and Lifestyle’

As a prelude to IDY, KSGH Music and Performing Arts University, in association with UGC and IUCYS, successfully conducted four days webinar relating to Yoga, Health and Lifestyle from June 17 to 20. During the occasion, Yoga masters, instructors and subject experts presented Yoga demonstrations. 

Dr. Subrahmanya Piloor, K.N. Ramesh, Prof. Dominic, Karibasappa, Dr. N.J. Patil, Subrahmanya Bhatt, Dr. B.C. Ashwini and Rajeshwari were the resource persons.

Prof. Avinash Chandra Pandey, Director of Inter University Accelerator Centre and IUCYS, delivered the keynote address and acknowledged the importance of Yogic Science in present days. 

The President of the programme, Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakotte, promised to organise such programmes and incorporate them into the curriculum of academic studies in the near future, highlighting the importance of health training for students and society.

Hundreds of students, faculty and staff participated in the event. The programme was attended by Finance Officer Renuka, Coordinators Ravikumar and Subramanya and NSS Coordinator Dr. Dundayya.
