Mysuru ZP to generate 55 lakh Man days under MGNREGA Scheme this year

April 4, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP) CEO A.M. Yogesh said that the ZP has been planned to generate 55.14 lakh work days (Man Days) under MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act) in the district in the year 2020-21.

Addressing a press meet at the ZP Mini Hall here on Thursday, Yogesh said that a Rs. 277 crore action plan has been prepared for creation of 55,14,805 work days (Man days) under MGNREGA.

Pointing out that it has been planned to carry out a total of 37,452 activities, which include a variety of work heads such as Ground Water Conservation, Farmers Action Plan, construction of Multi-Arch check dams, retaining walls, lake de-silting and rejuvenation, canal construction, soak pits, agri-forestry etc., the ZP CEO said that the works also cover school development works, construction of toilets, maintenance of play grounds, rain water harvesting, construction of kitchen rooms in schools, borewell digging, farm ponds  etc.

Continuing, Yogesh said that 2.94 lakh job cards have been issued in the district and the daily wage under the scheme has been raised to Rs. 289 with effect from Apr. 1 form the earlier Rs. 275.

Noting that out of the 2.94 lakh job card holders, 1.7 lakh are active beneficiaries who  continue to be engaged in labour under MGNREGA Scheme, he said that last year, 35 lakh working days target was set, which target was exceeded (116 percent) with the creation of 40.61 lakh Man days.

Maintaining that Mysuru ZP stands third in the State after Udupi and Kodagu in the implementation of MGNREGA Scheme, Yogesh said this is a remarkable achievement considering the fact that Mysuru stood at the bottom of the table just a couple of years ago.

ZP President Parimala Shyam, Vice-President Gowramma Somashekar and ZP Deputy Secretary M. Krishnaraj were present during the press meet.
