Uncovered 6 ft. deep water valve chamber barricaded after mishap

August 28, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Siddarthanagar Traffic Police have placed barricades around the 6 ft. deep water valve chamber on the roadside near BSNL Office on Dr. Rajkumar Road near Kalyanagirinagar after a scooter fell into it on Aug. 24 night.

Though it is the work of the authorities concerned to ensure the safety of motorists when they take up road works, there were no safety measures such as installing warning sign board or placing barricades around it.

This had resulted in a 59-year-old motorist, identified as Devaraju of Sathagalli, sustaining injuries on his face, hands and legs after the scooter he was riding fell into it.

The rider suffered minor injuries as he fell on the road while the scooter plunged into the chamber. Doing the job of civic authorities, Siddarthanagar Traffic Police, to prevent future mishaps, have placed barricades around the water valve chamber, to warn motorists about the presence of the deep pit.

Roads in and around the City have become back breakers. I would urge the concerned Official to take a round of the City’s main roads in their Private Vehicles to get an exact feel of what the general public faces on their daily commute. Its very easy for the Officers to commute in their Official AC Vehicles with their driver. The major intersection of Ashoka Road and Pulakeshi road is still lying uncovered causing huge hindrance. This was reported in SOM and no action has been taken till date.
The ring road from Columbia Asia intersection towards Infosys is in tatters with Pot holes and craters especially under the Railway Bridges. This is a major road which Employees of the IT sector use on a daily basis. The problem is compounded by erratic truck drivers all through the day. Many of the Street lights do not function all through the ORR. I am not sure if the Officials concerned are aware of these issues.

The regional officer that sanctioned the work and should be monitoring the work along with the contractor/company performing the work should both be heavily penalized and immediately terminated from their jobs. How much more are we going to tolerate such incompetent people and organizations? IF common sense safety does not come naturally to them are they really capable of doing any work that involves technical skill? Please ensure that once terminated, these people are NEVER hired or awarded any work again. Shame on us for allowing this to happen in today’s world and shame on us if we dont ensure we hold these people to account!
